This and That

A few sights in Quebec.

Quebec is full of the arts.
This is a street that was lined with artists
and their work.

We were told this was
"the most beautiful library in the world"
It photographs a lot better than it looked in person!!!

This house was built on a mountain side.
It is completely on stilts.
Just kind of hanging there in the air.
We were on a walk.
There were a bunch of houses built like this.

Home! the USA.
It really did feel nice to enter the United States again.
After seeing everything in french for a week
it was soooo nice to read signs in English again.

Hwy 6.
The same one that goes through Delta?
Don't know . . . .

We took the long way home.
I had never been to Maine
and Lincoln had never been to Vermont,
so we hit both states.

Still some French!

We went through many states.
Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York.
Canada . . . Montreal and Quebec.
Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont.
A great vacation!

St. Anne

We decided to go visit a Cathedral.
This is the Cathedral of St. Anne.
St. Anne was Mary, the mother of Christ's mother.

In our church we rarely talk about Mary's parents.
It was fun to see all of the different representations
of St. Anne and Mary.

Above the door of the Cathedral.

St. Anne with her daughter Mary.

St. Anne and Mary

The doors of the cathedral.
This is pressed copper.
We went and visited the workshop that made these.
I don't have pictures though,
no pictures allowed.

Every inch of the cathedral was decorated.
This is the floor.

Mary and her Parents

St. Anne and Mary.

St. Anne and Mary
I guess catholic people pray to Mary
and Mary will talk to her son in our behalf.
An odd thought for me!
And then to build a whole cathedral
around Mary's mother. . . . . interesting.

This is the basement of the cathedral.

The city wall again.

We also visited the Citadel (a military installation)
to see the changing of the Guard.

This guard's entire job is to take care of this goat.
The Citadel's mascot.
There is quite a story behind this goat.
The queen gave them a goat many years ago
and since then, they've always kept a goat.
He gets quite fussy at times,
during their very serious changing of the guard.
He sometimes steals all of the attention.

This was fun.
A lot of fanfare!

People were having their picture taken with the goat.

We wanted to try crepes.
THey are quite different than what we eat.

Île d'Orléans

There was an Island across the River from Quebec City.
We decided to drive around the Island.
We stopped and at at the Chocolaterie.
Quiche and salad.

Just had to stop!
We bought a box of chocolate.
There were a lot of different flavors in the box.
Lincoln and I shared each piece.
half a piece for each of us.

Looking back to Quebec City across the St. Lawrence River.

Quebec.

The chocolates we bought.
(they actually weren't all that great, sorry to say)

This is the second waterfall we went to visit.
We took a tram up to the top of the waterfall,
walked across the bridge you see at the top,
and then walked down those stairs
on the far right side of of the picture.

The tram.

The view from the top of the waterfall
back across the river.
The bridge we took from the Island and back.

I was kind of scared of those stairs.
They looked rickety from afar
but were fine when we finally got to them.

A rainbow!

The bridge at the top of the waterfall.

Starting down the long flight of stairs.

Another bridge we crossed.

Another view of that same bridge.

Lincoln walked to the base of the waterfall by himself.

The fanciest dinner we had was that evening.
We had no idea what we getting in to.
A five course meal.
The salad.

Yellow pea soup, and my georgeous husband.

Lincoln's meal.  He chose a traditional meal.
Meat pie, Meat balls, and some other things I don't remember.

I ordered fish.
I was super surprised to see the entire fish.
Eyeballs, tail and all!
The presentation was quite lovely :)

The leavings of the fish!

We had "sugar" pie for dessert.
I hadn't had anything like it before.
The fruit on the top was something I hadn't ever seen or
eaten before . . . .
I like trying new things!

I'm glad we had this experience.
The restaurant was in a very old home.
A nice treat.
